What Is a Vasectomy?
A vasectomy is a safe and minimally invasive procedure for men who wish to avoid pregnancies in the future. The procedure prevents sperm from entering the semen by sealing the tube that connects the testicle to the penis ,essentially sterilising a man without affecting his hormones or health.
At Precision Vasectomy, we perform no-scalpel vasectomies which is a safe, minimally invasive, and essentially pain-free procedure with a quick recovery time.
This is the most effective form of birth control and is over 99.9% effective at preventing pregnancy. It is a quick outpatient procedure, taking only around 20 minutes using local anaesthetic.
After the procedure, it is recommended that most patients take at least 48 hours to recover before returning to work and wait between one week and ten days before returning to exercise or strenuous activity.

What to expect
The Vasectomy Procedure
Discussion
A short medical review, explanation of the anatomy and procedure. Signing of the consent form.
Physical Assessment
Examination of the scrotum/testes to outrule physical abnormality.
Local Anaesthetic Applied
The skin and tubes are numbed. This will be a sharp scratch, similar to having your blood taken or a vaccine administered, there should be no pain following this.
Procedure
This usually takes about 20 minutes. The tube is brought to the surface and a small hole(3-4mm) is made in the skin. The tube is pulled through the skin, it is then divided, both ends sealed and placed back in the scrotum. The second tube is then pulled through the same hole and divided. This will all be painless.
Post Operative Care
No stitches or dressing is required, there will be a small wound that should heal with minimal intervention. Patients walk out of the room just as they walked in. Simple pain relief such as paracetamol may be needed that evening.

FAQs
Common Questions About Vasectomy
Is a vasectomy permanent?
Yes, a vasectomy is a permanent birth control solution for men. While vasectomy reversal is technically possible, it is not always successful which is why we encourage all of our patients to consider this procedure to be permanent.
Does it affect sexual function?
No, a vasectomy does not affect sexual function at all. A vasectomy works by inhibiting the sperm’s ability to get from the testicles to the penis, however it does not affect your hormone levels, your ability to get an erection, or your ability to ejaculate.
How long does recovery take?
Recovery from a vasectomy is fairly straightforward. Your doctor will generally recommend that you rest for a day or two following the procedure. Most of our patients are fully recovered within one to two weeks following the procedure. Keep in mind that the more you rest immediately after the procedure, the quicker your recovery time will be.
When can I return to work?
If you work a sedentary desk job, you can return to work within 24-48 hours after your vasectomy though we generally recommend taking a full two days off. If you work a physically demanding job, consider returning on a part–time basis for a day or two after the first week. By day 10, you should generally be capable of your normal workload.
